International Youth Congress "Energy and Climate"

9 a.m.

In cooperation with the University of Stuttgart and EnBW, the participants discuss different issues in schools throughout the city.

Part 1 – In preparation of the Stuttgart Youth Festival Climate Conference, all participants are requested to undertake a small research task before they leave home.
Please bring your responses to the following questions with you to Stuttgart:

  • For what purposes do we need energy? (Heating, cooling, light, transport etc).
  • How much energy do I consume? (Litres of oil for heating buildings, electricity for lighting and electrical appliances, means of transport…)
  • What energy mix is used in my country?
  • In what ways does my behaviour have a negative impact on the environment? (Travel, consumption patterns of food and other products…)
  • What impacts is climate change having in my country?
  • What different sources for generating energy for heating and electricity are available?
  • How sustainable are these sources of energy?

Part 2 – The answers to the following questions will be discussed during the workshops at the climate conference:

  • How can we adapt to climate change?
  • How can we save energy or use it more efficiently? By how much percent should I reduce my energy consumption?
  • How can we achieve serious reductions in energy consumption? What alternative means of energy are available (Solar, hydro, wind, biofuel…)
  • What options will the next generation have for energy supply?
  • What do we need to change? (individually, in the family, local town, nation-wide…)

Formulate the Stuttgart statement
What do we expect from the politics, economy and science? What I can do – three concrete statements to future handling energy
