Stuttgart is celebrating „Sport Festival“ – the 2009 Mission Olympic Competition Final
Is Stuttgart going to be the most active city? From July 10th til July 12th citizens are called on to get active for their city and fight for the title “Germany’s most active city”.
During the two day event, each activity participant will collect points. These points can be collected at more than 700 activity stations. Mayor Dr. Wolfgang Schuster emphasizes the simple message: “It’s all about action! No matter if it’s a walking tour, a soccer tournament, sports action on club ground, bike tours or, of course, the simple action of visiting the downtown festival – anything will count for Stuttgart”.
The whole event will be built around the “S-city fit and fun – 7th Children and Youth Festival”, taking place from 11th – 12th of July on the Schlossplatz in the centre of the city. Different sports supporters will set up over 200 sporting activities for their citizens. This will include a spectacular event planned for Saturday, July 11th at 12pm where the people of Stuttgart are requested to beat the record of the most couples dancing the Waltz – this could happen with a minimum of 1,700 dancing couples.
Additionally, the organizers plan to sum up all the city’s walking-activity symbolically. “All covered distances add up to the 40,000 kilometres, meaning one would need to walk around the equator once”, says Sports Mayor Dr. Susanne Eisenmann. The ambitious part of the aim is to get participants from each of the 170 different nationalities living in Stuttgart. On July 12th , it is estimated that around 100 youngsters from Stuttgart’s twin cities will participate in the run around the world to angle attention to the UNESCO Youth Festival taking place right after the Sports Festival of Stuttgart.
